Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdullah Shamal has become the latest high-profile witness to be summoned to the Parliament's Committee on Oversight of the Security Forces, dubbed 241 Committee in short.
The Committee is conducting an inquiry into the security breach of speaker of the parliament Mohamed Nasheed prior to the failed assassination attempt against him last month.
The parliament confirmed via Twitter that the Major General had been summoned to the committee today and that the members of the committee had posed their questions to Shamal at the closed-door hearing.
The Major General appeared at the Committee after the Maldives National Defense Force had said that it would not allow individual servicemen to be summoned to the committee but would answer its summon as a whole.
Earlier the 241 committees heard statements by the housing Minister Mohamed Aslam and former Mayor of Male' City Shifa Mohamed.
