A young man has been wounded in a stabbing incident reported in the capital city of Male' today.

Speaking to "The Press", a police media official said that the incident was reported to police at around 11:04 am today and that a man had been stabbed in a house in Male'.

Police also said that the house was located in the Mahchangoalhi ward of the capital city and that the victim who was injured in the stabbing was a 19-year-old local man.

They said that the man had been taken to IGMH for treatment.

The police are yet to determine the nature of the crime and had said that it was actively investigating the case.

A series of stabbing incidents were reported in the capital city earlier this year while the authorities had eased the COVID-19 restrictions it had implemented in Male' following a drop in COVID cases at the start of the year.

But lately, authorities had tightened measures taken against the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives and especially the Greater Male Area where a 04:00 pm to 08:00 am curfew is being imposed every day since late last month.

Also, residents are not allowed to go out with a police-issued pass during non-curfew hours.
