President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed a top government official to each Atoll to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the country.

Health Ministry said that the President made this decision to closely monitor the pandemic situation in the Atolls and to further enhance the pandemic operations in the islands.

It said that the President had decided to appoint a top government official to each Atoll for better coordination of the operations.

The Ministry said that a state minister or deputy minister-level official would be appointed to each atoll and that these officials would work with island councils and individual COVID task force at each island of the atolls.

The ministry also said these officials would work to identify the hurdles facing COVID operations at the atoll level, bring these issues to the attention of the Health Emergency Operation Center HEO and other relevant organizations.

This comes after the government takes further precautionary measures to curb the COVID-19 pandemic in the country including imposing a curfew in the Greater Male' Area as well as any other islands currently under monitoring.
