Home Minister Imran Abdullah has confirmed that all four suspects apprehended in relation to the May 6th attack against the Speaker of the parliament Mohamed Nasheed had tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking at the parliament today, Minister Imran said that all four suspects and a number of investigating officers have tested positive for COVID-19 and that this has hindered the speed of the investigation.

Imran explained that initially 450 police officers had been involved in the investigation and that foreign experts have also been lending their expertise to the investigation.

He said that President Solih forming a special committee to oversee the investigation had also helped the probe into the attack and that he was happy with the findings so far. But noted that the speed of the investigation had been hindered and that this could be caused by several mitigating factors.

However, Minister Imran assured that all the officers working on the case would continue to do their duties tirelessly and with utmost dedication.

Minister Imran spoke after the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed had urged the public not to undermine the investigation into the assassination attempt against former President Nasheed in which he sustained near-fatal injuries and 4 others were also wounded.
