Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed an additional COVID-19 death in the Maldives as the fourth pandemic wave continues to wreak havoc in the Island nation.

HPA said via Twitter that today at 08:07 am a 66-year-old Maldivian male admitted at HMF has passed away. HPA confirmed that this is the 124th person to succumb to the pandemic in the Maldives since April 2020.

This is also the 51st individual to die from the illness in the country this month, making it by far the worse month the country had endured in its year-long fight against the pandemic.

Yesterday, HPA had confirmed three COVID-19 deaths in the country. HPA had said that all three who had died yesterday had passed away at the Hulhumale Medical Facility HMF and that all three had been locals under the age of 60.

The Agency has said that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has now reached a staggering 54,365. This also means that the HPA had confirmed 24,530 new cases of COVID-19 this month alone.

HPA said that right now there are over 22,400 active cases of the illness in the country and that 294 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.

The Agency confirmed that 31,812 people have recovered from the illness in the country.
