Maldives National Defence Force MNDF says it has strengthened security in and around the Parliament building after an individual made online threats about attacking the Majlis building.
The threat was made on a Facebook live post of yesterday's Parliamentary sitting at which MPs had debated on a motion about the May 6th attack against the speaker of the parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed.
The online user had said that the parliament building should be blasted. The user had directed threatening comments against the MPs saying that they receive unjust salaries and the building that houses such MPs should be attacked.
Police had said that it is now actively probing the threats made against the parliamentary building.
While MNDF said that it had ramped up the security in and around the building following these threats.
The threats were made amid heightened tension in the country after the attack against the Speaker earlier this month.
Nasheed was targeted just outside his house after an IED strapped on a motorcycle parked nearby was detonated just as the speaker had walked past the vehicle on his way to his car waiting outside.
The speaker sustained near-fatal injuries and is now seeking treatment abroad in Germany after several life-saving surgeries in ADK hospital last week.
Police had since arrested three suspects in relation to the case including the prime suspect who authorities believed detonated the device that night.
