Maldives Meteorological Service Met Office has extended a yellow alert it had issued over the southern atolls amid worsening weather in the country.
Met Office said that the alert had been extended from 01:00 pm to 05:00 pm today and that it had been issued from Laamu Atoll to Addu City.
It also said that torrential rain, thunderstorms, and gust wind of 45 mph with rough seas expected.
The Met Office had earlier extended the yellow alert for the southern atolls from 09:00 am to 01:00 pm.
Meanwhile, the Met Office had also extended the white alert it had issued to areas in the central Maldives.
The Met Office had issued the alert from Raa Atoll to Thaa Atoll and had extended its time from 01:00 pm to 06:00 pm.
It said that heavy rain, thunderstorms and gust wind of 40 mph with rough seas are expected in the area.
