Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed nearly 200 new cases from inhabited islands across the country Tuesday as the pandemic situation in the Atolls continues to worsen in the Maldives.

HPA reported a total of 386 new cases across the country yesterday and said that 198 cases were from inhabited islands in the country.

The Agency had confirmed today that 23 islands in the country are now under monitoring to curb the spread of the illness on these islands. This includes 5 islands from Thaa Atoll where the spread of the pandemic is believed to be vast.

HPA also said that 105 new cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area while 77 cases were reported from industrial islands and islands used for other purposes.

HPA noted that these new cases have taken the total number of COVID cases reported in the Maldives to 28,588 with active cases now spiking up to 4009.

The agency said that 119 COVID patients have now been hospitalized for further treatment.

The pandemic has killed 71 individuals in the Maldives including 64 locals and 7 foreigners.
