Police have arrested two men in Male' for the alleged rape of a woman.
Speaking to "The Press" a media official at Police said that last night a report was submitted saying that two men had allegedly raped a woman in Male' and that the report was lodged around 08:10 pm.
Police said that two men had been arrested in relation to the case and that they include an 18-year-old and a 23-year-old.
Police added that both men were locals.
It said that Police were actively investigating the case.
Reports of rape and sexual assault have become commonplace in the Maldives these days including a highly controversial case that surfaced on an island in the central Atolls of the country in March.
Media reports have the family of the victim who has accused that the minor was gang-raped and that her assistants include a teacher, a police officer, and another man.
Protests had erupted on the island claiming that Police were not investigating the case and the
Police had made several arrests after taking protesters under custody.
