President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that those who have had two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine can soon travel freely within the country.

In a tweet, the president reminisced that a year ago today, Malé city went into lockdown following its first positive COVID-19 case.

Sharing a picture of a surfer taking on a wave, the President said that as the country waits for life to return to normal, he was happy to announce that those who’ve had 2 weeks pass since their 2nd vaccine dose can soon travel freely to the atolls.

The Health Protection Agency HPA had said tonight that a total of 28,970 people have now been given the second dose of the COVID vaccine across the country.

It also said that over 274,782 people have received the first dose of the COVID vaccine in the country since February.

HPA had earlier reported a surge in vaccine turnout in the Greater Male' Area and the President's announcement could further extend the already-winding queues outside the vaccination centers in the Area.

HPA had said that due to the high turnout it had now extended the operational hours of the vaccination centers to 09:00 pm to 11:45 pm during the Holy month of Ramadan.
