Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that it would begin the routine administration of the 2nd dose of the Covishield vaccine in two days time as authorities look to immunize the population in the three-month time frame.
HPA officials said that it would begin the administration of the 2nd dose of the covishield vaccine on Saturday and urged those eligible for the 2nd dose of that vaccine to bring their COVID vaccination cards and their National Identity cards.
HPA had said that it had stopped administering the covishield vaccine as a first dose in the Greater Male' Area and that it would only be given as a 2nd dose in the capital city.
The Maldives had received 300,000 doses of the covishield vaccine from India after having brought an additional 100,000 doses from the country earlier this month. Indian government had donated 200,000 doses of the vaccine.
HPA had been overseeing the administration of the Sinopharm vaccine as the first dose in the Greater Male' area and had said that those who had been given the first dose of the Covishield vaccine cannot receive the Sinopharm vaccine as their 2nd dose vaccine.
The Agency had said last night that a total of 235,682 individuals had been given the vaccine in the Maldives since the 1st of February.
It had said that this includes 130, 376 from the Greater Male' Area and 105,306 from the Atolls.
