Parliament Committee on Member’s Privileges and Ethics says the accusations made by former Communications Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal about threats to former Gender Minister Shidhaatha Shareef are baseless.
Maleeh, who had been ousted from his post after failing to win a no-confidence vote from the parliament, had said that the then Gender Minister had resigned from her post after being threatened and that members of the parliament had harassed the ex-Minister.
Following his accusations, the committee had summoned Maleeh to one of its three hearings on the matter. But Maleeh had refused to answer any of the questioned addressed to him by the committee and instead repeatedly went on to say that the committee had no right to summon him for questioning.
Members of the committee had today said the ex-Minister had been uncivil in during his questioning at the committee hearing. The Committee also said that Maleeh's accusations were baseless and that the Minister had made the accusations while speaking at the parliament while defending himself against the no-confidence motion that was later passed against the ex-Minister.
The committee also passed to send a letter to Maleeh advising him against making such claims in the future.
