Ministry of Higher Education says that the government has spent over MVR 240 million on its 'Free Degree Program' since its inception back in 2019.
The Ministry said that over 10,000 students are now on the path to getting their first degrees under the program while studying at different institutions in the country.
Yesterday, in a rare press conference President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had also said that the government had reached the target of sponsoring the first degree of more than 10,000 students just last week.
President Solih had said that this is the biggest project the government is currently undertaking and that this would bring positive effects to the country's economic prospects in the next couple of years.
This is a key pledge made by President Solih during his presidential campaign back in 2018.
He had said that the key ideal behind the program was to cultivate a generation of highly educated and capable youth that would go on to benefit the country and its developmental goals.
