MP for Medhu Henvairu Constituency and majority party leader Ali Azim has tested positive for COVID-19.

MDP PG leader Azim had confirmed that he had tested positive for the illness to 'The Press'.

He had said in comments to other outlets that he was notified of the positive result last night and that he was now fighting a strong fever.

This comes mere 8 days after the majority leader had celebrated his birthday at the parliament with a small cake cutting ceremony.

Videos shared on social media show him surrounded by other MP, including those representing the opposition coalition as well those representing the government coalition.

But there are no other reports about any other MPs testing for the pandemic yet.

Although, Azim's positive result is unlikely to put the other MPs who joined his celebration at risk as the cake cutting ceremony was held on the 1st of this month.

There have been several COVID-19 cases from the parliament and the building has been disinfected on several occasions.

Though the government has taken extra measures to quell the rampant COVID-19 pandemic in the Greater Male' Area, the parliament is in full swing since last month and has been having daily sittings as well as committee meetings
