39 people were arrested from Friday's opposition rally

The opposition protesters had regrouped at different locals across the Male' after Police had earlier closed down all roads leading to the PPM head office where the opposition protests usually begin.

Friday protests came as HPA strengthen the restrictive measures taken against the rampant COVID-19 pandemic.

HPA had said that gatherings of more than 5 people are not allowed in public while the curfew currently in place in the Greater Male' Area have also been extended for another 7 days.

HPA had also said that the vehicular ban in effect in the Area has also been prolonged for another week to restrict the movement of people in a bid to further control the COVID-19 pandemic.
