Maldives National Defense Force MNDF has reported a fire incident at an accommodation building housing expatriates working near Hulhumale' Phase II area.

MNDF said that it received the report of the fire at the migrant accommodation block near the 7000 flats in Phase-II around 11:08 am in the morning.

It said that MNDF Fire and Rescue Unit were able to extinguish the fire successfully within an hour after arriving on the scene of the incident.

No injuries were reported from the incident although the accommodation unit had sustained considerable damages in the fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Fire incidents have been increasing around the country with such a report coming from Veligandu Island resort yesterday.

The incident had occurred in a guestroom on the resort and was extinguished by resort staff before MNDF arrived on the scene. Most of the electronic appliances in the room were damaged beyond repair.
