Police say it is now supervising traffic on Laamu Gan Link road that leads to Gan and Fonadhoo of the Atoll after the islands were placed under monitoring to quell a suspected case of COVID-19 community spread.
Police said since the two islands were placed under monitoring by health officials on the 9th of this month, Police officers are now supervising traffic on the link road as well as operations at both harbors on the islands.
Police thanked citizens for their continued cooperation as it looks to conduct a successful operation.
The islands in Laamu Atoll, linked by a causeway, were placed under monitoring after four people from Fonadhoo who had recently traveled to Gaa Alifu Dhevadhoo had tested positive for COVID-19.
Health Protection Agency HPA is currently trying to control a possible community spread of the pandemic in Dhevadhoo after it had identified a COVID-19 cluster from the island that has now expanded 22 cases of the pandemic.
HPA had previously placed Dhevadhoo under monitoring and had recently ordered all those who had traveled from the island to other islands after 30th November to get themselves tested for COVID-19.
HPA had also advised such travelers to refrain from going to school, work, or other gatherings unless cleared by a negative COVID-19 test.
