Health Protection Agency HPA has announced that from today onwards locals and work permit holders traveling from the UK would be mandated to stay under quarantine for 10 days.
HPA said that this would apply to those who had stayed in the UK 14 days prior to traveling and also those who have transited in the UK for more than 12 hours on their travel back to the Maldives.
HPA also said that these travelers would be quarantined at home and that they have to give a PCR sample after 5 days of quarantine and that again after 10 days of quarantine.
The Agency also said that as announced earlier, all travelers must have a negative PCR test taken 96 hours prior to traveling to the Maldives.
It instructed all relevant organizations to take the necessary actions to implement these changes.
HPA’s precautionary measures came as the UK reported a mutated variant of the COVID-19 virus which the country has said is spreading rampantly in the UK.
Several countries have imposed travel restrictions on passengers from Britain amid concerns over the variant.
