Tourism Minister Dr. Abdullah Mausoom says the blaring alarm of the COVID-19 threat might have died down in the Maldives but the threat of the pandemic still looms over the rest of the world.

In a tweet, Dr. Mausoom said the threat of the pandemic has declined in the Maldives by the grace of Allah but the rest of the world was still struggling with the dangers of the illness.

He said the country should remain cautious of the dangers of the pandemic that have killed millions across the world and stifled economic growth around the globe.

The Minister’s warning came as the country’s daily COVID-19 cases dropped to a 1-digit number yesterday after the HPA reported just 8 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Monday.

HPA had said that 4 new cases were confirmed from the Male’ Area yesterday while 3 cases were reported from operational resorts and 1 new case confirmed from an inhabited island.

HPA added that 13,501 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Maldives since March and that 12,929 people have since recovered from the illness.

The Agency also said that 517 active cases remained in the country while 40 COVID-19 patients are being treated at hospitals.

The global pandemic has claimed the lives of 48 in the Maldives including 41 locals and 7 foreigners.
