Fuel Supplies Maldives FSM has suspended 5 employees for their role in the 8-million-rufiyaa oil theft uncovered at Maldives Ports Limited MPL last month.

Speaking to ‘The Press’, Managing Director at FSM Mohamed Gasam said that up until now the company has suspended 5 of its employees in relation to the oil theft and all of the suspended employees work at the oil bowser department.

He assured that the company had not fired any employee in relation to the matter.

Gasam also said that FSM and MPL had signed a memorandum of understanding MOU and were jointly investigating the major oil theft.

Gasam noted that in previous matters, the company had not hesitated to take necessary disciplinary actions against its employees and has terminated employment in some cases. He added that once this matter is sufficiently investigated, appropriate actions would be taken by the company.

MPL had said that it had suspended 3 employees in relation to the oil theft at the company but failed to reveal their status or their departments.

In November, MPL had said that these corrupt transactions took place during its operation amid the COVID-19 lockdown. It said that the company’s internal audit had compiled a report on the dubious transactions and that company is further probing these transactions.

MPL noted that the company had the employees allegedly involved in the corrupt transactions and have since forwarded the case to the Auditor General’s Office and Anti-Corruption Commission for further investigation.
