Health Protection Agency HPA has cut the quarantine duration from 14 days to 10 days today.
In an announcement, HPA said that the change in the COVID-19 quarantine period would be applicable effective from 4th December (Friday).
HPA also said this change only applies to travelers and that those who come in contact with an individual with COVID-19 should still complete quarantine of 14 days.
Those who can apply for a 10-day quarantine period include:
- Those traveling to the Maldives from abroad except for tourists
- Those who travel from the Greater Male’ Area to the Atolls
- Those traveling from resorts to inhabited islands
- Those traveling from islands operating guesthouses to other islands
The Agency said travelers who are currently in quarantine and those traveling before Friday should still complete the mandatory 14-days quarantine as set before.
The change in quarantine duration came as many raised serious concerns stating that it is unfair for civilians traveling from the Greater Male’ Area to the islands to spend 14-days under quarantine while tourists and government officials are not required to quarantine themselves as per HPA guidelines.
