Health Protection Agency HPA says another local has succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic here in the Maldives today.

In a tweet, HPA confirmed that a 77-year-old man Maldivian man admitted at HMF passed away at 2:09 pm today.

HPA said that he is the 46th person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives since April. He is the 8th person to die from the illness in the Maldives this month.

The 46 individuals who died from COVID-19 in the Maldives include 39 locals and 7 foreigners. HPA had also said that the total number of reported cases of COVID-19 include 7 individuals who had tested positive for the illness posthumously but whose deaths were not caused by the pandemic.

Health Protection Agency has said that a total of 12,578 people has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since March of this year. It said that out of those 11,559 have now recovered and that 967 remained as active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

HPA also said that 341 remained under isolation at various facilities and that 82 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized.
