Ministry of Education says it would allow preschools in the islands to open next week following the decline of COVID-19 cases reported in the country.
In a tweet, the Ministry said pre-schools in the islands can resume operations and have the students attend school sessions for age-appropriate educational activities starting the 15th of this month.
The Education Ministry closed down schools nationwide in March after the discovery of the first COVID-19 in the country. Since then, the Education Ministry had allowed schools in the islands to resume sessions back in July for grades 1 and above.
It had also allowed schools in Male’ to resume session for higher grades in July but closed down the schools again after the spike in COVID-19 cases in the Greater Male’ Area.
The Ministry had then restarted schooling sessions for students of higher grades in the Greater Male’ again in October and now students of grades 8 and above attend school sessions on a regular basis.
The Ministry had mandated that all the schools must take necessary precautionary measures including making social distancing markings and have easily accessible handwashing stations around the school.
Students are expected to wear facemasks to schools and parents who take the students to school are expected to wear facemasks.
