Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem says he has sent an official letter to the Criminal Court urging it to Livestream court proceedings of the MMPRC corruption scandal.
In a tweet, PG Shameem said the court hearings are scheduled to begin later this month. He also said that he made the request to Livestream the court hearings to ensure the transparency of the process.
The PG said he hoped the court will facilitate this request.
The Criminal Court had allowed live streaming of court proceedings on this case on two different occasions before, also upon the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Touted as the biggest corruption scandal ever recorded in the country, the MMPRC scandal involves several high-ranking officials from the previous administration as well as those from the current administration, government institutions, and the parliament too.
Former President Abdullah Yameen and Vice President Ahmed Adeeb had been implicated in the scandal on several charges.
