Health Protection Agency HPA confirms that an 80-year-old Maldivian has succumbed to COVID-19 in the Maldives today.

In a tweet, HPA said today at 03:50 pm, an 80-year-old Maldivian male admitted at HMF has passed away.

He is the 3rd person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives this month and the 37th person to succumb to the illness in the country since April.

A total of 31 Maldivians and 6 foreigners have now died from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

HPA had said last night that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country has now reached 11,178.

It also revealed that more than 10,000 people have now recovered from the illness in the Maldives.

The Agency said that 1038 people remained as active cases of COVID-19 in the country and that 369 individuals were currently under isolation. HPA added that 43 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
