HPA begins COVID-19 antibodies study in the Greater Male’ Area

Health Protection Agency HPA says it has initiated a sero-prevalence study of COVID-19 pandemic in the Greater Male’.

HPA said that the objective of the study is to identify past exposure to COVID-19.

It also said participants of the study would be below the age of 18.

Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq had said before that authorities were fully geared to conduct such a study in the Maldives to identify the true extent of the pandemic that has claimed 35 lives in the country.

She had also said in order to truly understand the extent of the pandemic, all age groups of the population must be tested for COVID-19 fighting antibodies.

HPA had conducted an antibodies test for foreigners living in Male’ earlier this year and found that 75 percent of the tested individuals had been infected and since recovered from the illness.

The Agency had confirmed today that out of the 51 new cases reported in the country today, 46 were confirmed from the Greater Male’ Area.

The total number of COVID-19 cases currently stands at 11,113 with 9931 recoveries also recorded in the country.
