The newly active Maldives Journalists Association MJA has called on the Police to investigate the harassment of two journalists from Dhiyares Online news.
It has been reported that Ahmed Azaan and Naahid Ahmed of the online outlet faced harassment and attempts to intimidate from politician Alhan Fahmy and Azaan had said that he would file a complaint at police regarding the verbal attack.
In a statement via twitter, MJA said that it was concerned about the harassment and attempts to intimidate the journalists of Dhiyares News. MJA further called on the Police to immediately investigate the case and take necessary action without delay.
MJA said that the most important action against attempts to attempts to intimidate, harass and attack journalists is to end impunity for all crimes against journalists. It added that continued impunity for crimes against journalists remains the biggest threat for journalism in the Maldives.
MJA also called on all journalists to report any such cases to the Maldives Journalist Association as soon as possible.
