Health Protection Agency HPA has placed 6 islands from 3 northern Atolls under monitoring after a COVID-19 case surfaced from Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi.

The islands placed under monitoring include Haa Dhaalu Kulhdhuffushi, Haa Dhaalu Kurunbee, Haa Alifu Baarah, Haa Alifu Dhihdhoo, Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, and Shaviyani Funadhoo.

Speaking at the latest news briefing held by the Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC, Spokesperson at the Center Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said that these islands were brought under monitoring after a police officer working in Kulhudhuffushi tested positive for COVID-19.

She also said that although the officer had not traveled to the Greater Male’ Area, the individual had traveled to police stations in the region, and the islands were placed under monitoring until the contact tracing for the person is completed.

Dr. Nazla said authorities would make further decisions when it receives more information.

This is the 3rd time HPA has placed Kulhdhuffushi city under monitoring.

Last month HPA had placed the island city of Kulhudhuffushi under monitoring after several crew members from a boat belonging to the island had tested positive for COVID-19.

HPA had reported last night that a total of 10567 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the Maldives with 37 reported yesterday. It also said 9427 people have recovered from the illness and that 1099 remained as active cases of COVID-19 across the country. It added that 65 COVID-19 patients were still hospitalized for treatment and that 432 individuals were isolated.

The global pandemic has claimed 34 lives here in the Maldives including 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
