Health Protection Agency HPA says an additional 97 individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives on Wednesday.
In a tweet, HPA said that 50 of the 97 cases were confirmed from the Greater Male’ Area while 47 new cases were reported from the islands and resorts.
HPA also said that the new cases include 43 locals and 55 foreigners.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to 10291 since March when the Maldives reported its first case of the global pandemic.
HPA noted that 71 people had recovered from the illness on Wednesday in the county and that has taken the total number of recoveries to 9108.
The Agency said that the number of active cases of COVID-19 has now increased from 1116 to 1142 since Tuesday. It also said that the number of individuals under isolation has also increased since Tuesday from 556 to 585.
However, HPA confirmed that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has dropped by 5 from 80 to 75 since Tuesday.
HPA had said that 22 islands across the country are hosting 87 active cases of COVID-19 at the moment and that only Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo is currently under monitoring after authorities confirmed the local transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic on the island.
It also said that 22 resorts have active cases of COVID-19 right now and that they include 10 tourists and 17 staff.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 34 lives here in the Maldives including 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
Authorities have also said that the confirmed cases of COVID-19 include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to the pandemic.
