Anti-Corruption Commission ACC has confirmed that a complaint has been filed at the commission against Transport Minister Aishath Nahula.

Speaking to ‘The Press’, Information Commissioner at ACC Hassan Manik said the complaint was filed last night and it was regarding the repealing of the regulation on Shipping Agency Services published by the Transport Authority.

The regulation was published on the 16th of July and was repealed on the 16th of September.

The complaint filed with signatures from over 70 local shipping agents and businessmen said that the regulation was revoked without the approval of the board at the Transport Authority.

The complaint also read that the regulation was revoked in violation Article 12 (a) of the Law on Prevention and Prohibition which stipulates that it is an offense for an employee of Government or a Government venture to use position or influence from the position, to gain or confer an undue advantage pertaining to a task or connected to a task being carried out by the agency or place of employment.

The complaint had said the Minister Nahula had violated this section when the Regulation of Shipping Agency Services was revoked without the consent of the board at Transport Authority.

It also said that the Ministry had not acted to fully implement the regulation and that it had been brought to the Ministry’s attention multiple times.

The complaint also read that the transport Authority had notified the Ministry of the inability to implement the said regulation and that the responsibility to formulate laws and regulations regarding the work of the Authority falls on its shoulders and that the Minister had no authority to unilaterally make decisions on its behalf.
