Authorities in the Maldives has sent back 200 more Bangladeshis living in the country back to their home today.
In a tweet, national carrier Maldivian said that it had repatriated 200 Bangladeshis aboard its flight that departed from Velaana International Airport today.
This is the 37th repatriation flight Maldivian has chartered Maldivian authorities began sending back Bangladeshi migrant workers living in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Maldivian government has been working with the Bangladeshi authorities to repatriate its nationals back to the country. Since April, Maldivian authorities have repatriated more 8000 Bangladeshis living in the country and most of them have been sent aboard Maldivian flights.
Both the Economic Ministry along with the Foreign Ministry has been working in the repatriation work.
Health Protection Agency’s latest data on the COVID-19 pandemic shows that 2768 Bangladeshi nationals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives and that this is 28 percent of the total positive cases reported in the country since March.
