Health Protection Agency HPA reports an additional 99 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Wednesday

In its latest update, HPA confirmed that 92 new cases were reported in the Greater Male’ Area while 7 were confirmed from the islands.

HPA said that the new cases include 65 locals and 34 foreigners.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives now stands at 9427.

Meanwhile, HPA said that 174 individuals recovered from the illness on Wednesday in the Maldives. This pushes the total recoveries closer to 8000 at 7903.

It said that the number of active cases of COVID-19 has reduced from 1560 to 1485 in the last 24 hours while the number of isolated COVID-19 patients also dropped from 767 to 727.

But HPA reported that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has increased since Tuesday with 115 currently under treatment at hospital settings.

HPA also said that currently, 20 islands across the country are hosting active cases of COVID-19 while Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Hoadehdhoo and Madaveli remained under monitoring. HPA had earlier lifted Noonu Manadhoo from monitoring after the random samples from the island came back negative for COVID-19.

HPA also said that 20 resorts in the country are currently hosting active cases of COVID-19 and that this includes 20 tourists and 47 staff.

The global pandemic has claimed 33 lives here in the Maldives since April of this year including 27 locals and 6 foreigners.
