Health authorities have started collecting random samples from Gaaf Dhaal Madaveli in order to assess possibility of a community spread in the island.
According to the chief at Madaveli Health Center, Husham Hashim, the staff of Thinadhoo Abdussamad Memorial Hospital and the center has collaborated in collecting random samples to make the assessment.
Moreover, Hashim notes the Thinadhoo team arrived sometime on Sunday afternoon to assist the Health Center in acquiring samples to check for Covid-19 contagion.
Meanwhile the country reports Covid-19 second wave have resulted in well over 30 different islands outside of Greater Male' Region reporting active cases.
According to the latest updates by Ministry of Health and Health Protection Agency (HPA), there are a total of 2,629 active cases of which 168 have been hospitalized. A total of 1,235 remain in various isolation facilities.
Maldives reports a total of 8,486 positive cases so far, inclusive of both recoveries and active cases. Recoveries have since surged to 5,822.
