Police says it is probing an on-air comment broadcasted on a local TV channel that called for bodily harm against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Police said the call to light President Solih on fire has now been brought to its attention and that it would be making the necessary inquiries.
A video clip circulated on social media showed a segment from ‘Channel 13’s ‘Rayithunge Adu’ program in which a called is heard threatening the President by saying that President Solih should be lit on fire.
The media outlet has been facing heavy criticism from many on social media on which several have condemned the threat.
Channel 13 has been curbing the line with its aggressive content often times have used unsuitable language in its broadcast and has faced a warning from Maldives Broadcasting Commission over its content.
