Authorities have fined at least one individual for clear violation of home-quarantine regulations. The individual was situated at Kaafu atoll Guraidhoo.

Maldives Police Service on Thursday, 03 September 2020, confirms a local male aged 39 years has been charged for violating the home quarantine regulations. He was fined with MVR2,500 for the offense, says local police authority.

Meanwhile local law enforcement authority confirms this is the first instance of fining an individual for violating regulations of home quarantine protocols, subjected under the provisions in the amendment to Regulation on Quarantine Facilities.

The island nation is currently observing a second wave of Covid-19 pandemic which has taken a heavier toll than the first outbreak wave.

So far over 30 different islands outside of Greater Male' Region report active cases while the total number of cases from Maldives have reached 8,140 inching close towards a five-figure count.

According to health authorities the country reports a total of 5,338 recoveries while 2,767 individuals remain as active cases. Maldives have reported a total of 29 deaths so far due to the viral contagion.
