Tourism Ministry says starting from the 10th of this month all tourists and short-term visitors must present a Negative PCR certificate on arrival in the Maldives.
In a tweet, the Ministry said that the Health Protection Agency HPA has made this mandatory for the safety of all.
Earlier the Ministry announced that the Government would permit the reopening of Guest Houses from 15 Oct 2020.
It said that the issuing of the permit will be based on consent from Island Council and criteria and guideline by HPA and Health Emergency Operations Center.
The Maldives reopened its borders on the 15th of July but is yet to allow tourists to stay at guesthouses located on islands around the country.
In its latest update, HPA had said that 16 resorts across the country are hosting active cases of COVID-19 and that this includes 16 tourists and 29 staff.
