Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says 5 COVID-19 patients are currently on ventilator support.

Addressing the media at her first onsite HEOC press briefing since being placed under home quarantine earlier this month, Dr. Nazla said that 3 of the patients were being treated at Dharumavantha Hospital 11th floor, DH11, and another two were admitted at Hulhumale Medical Facility HMF.

Dr. Nazla clarified that a total of 5 COVID-19 patients are under treatment at DH11 and all of them have been admitted to the ICU with three on ventilator support.

She said that 6 COVID-19 patients were being treated on the 16th floor of the hospital with another one admitted on the 20th floor of the hospital. Dr. Nazla added that 1 patient was under treatment at Baa Atoll Eydhafushi COVID-19 facility.

HEOC Spokesperson also said that 156 COVID-19 were being treated in the ward of the Hulhumale’ COVID-19 facility while 3 others were admitted to the ICU of the facility.

Dr. Nazla added that 1451 individuals remained under isolation at various facilities across the country.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 28 lives here in the Maldives with 11 individuals dying this month. The individuals who lost the fight against the pandemic include 22 locals and 6 foreigners.

The locals who died mostly include elderly patients with underlying health conditions although a 42-year-old had also died from COVID-19 in the country in August.
