Maldives Correctional Services confirm a total of six individuals from Hulhumale' Jail testing positive for Covid-19.

According to the authority, five expatriates detained at the Hulhumale' Detention Center by Maldives Immigration tested positive along with an inmate. The expatriates were detained for evident breaches of the law and possibly holding expired or unsubstantial work documents.

The details were updated to the authority from Maldives Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Meanwhile, Correctional Service asserts the disease may have spread from the expatriate detainees at the Detention Center. It also adds that a total of 10 officers from the authority along with 2 nurses and 19 detainees have been subjected to acquiring samples. Additionally, samples from one of the inmates have been acquired for testing as well.

Correctional Service further confirms the newly declared guidelines in light of the Covid-19 pandemic by HPA have been strictly adhered at their facilities.

As of Thursday afternoon the total number of positive cases discovered from Maldives was at 7,225 inclusive of recoveries and active cases. The total recoveries have reached 4,561 while active cases stood at 2,636. Out of the total active cases 162 have been hospitalized.

Maldives reports a total of 28 deaths in relation to Covid-19 which includes 22 locals and 6 expatriates.
