The Maldives Immigration says Sri Lankan citizens will now be granted a 90-day free on-arrival visa when visiting the Maldives, effective Tuesday.

It said that this decision follows official talks between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka during the latter's stated visit to the Maldives.

Immigration said that Maldivian citizens have been receiving a 90-day on-arrival visa to Sri Lanka since January 2025.

It added that these decisions reflect the close bilateral relations between the two countries.

Sri Lankan President Disanayaka concluded his state visit to the Maldives last night.

The visit took place at the invitation of the President of the Maldives, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

President Disanayake was accorded a ceremonial welcome in Malé. During the visit, he held official talks with President Dr Muizzu and witnessed the signing of a key Memorandum of Understanding and a treaty aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The two leaders delivered joint press statements reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening ties between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. A state banquet was hosted in his honour, and several Cabinet ministers and senior officials paid courtesy calls on the visiting President.

This is President Disanayaka’s first state visit to the Maldives since assuming office in September 2024. The Maldives and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations in 1965, and this year commemorates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
