Parliament's Public Accounts Committee holds its hearing with the Maldives Monetary Authority MMA on the dollar issue behind closed doors.

The meeting was held behind closed doors upon the request of the Governor of MMA, Ahmed Munnavar.

MP for Funadhoo Constituency, Mohamed Mamdhoo, moved to hold the meeting behind closed doors, and 6 members voted in favour of his motion.

All MDP MPs on the committee voted against holding the meeting behind closed doors.

Speaking against holding the meeting in secret, the MP for Hulhumale South Constituency, Dr. Ahmed Shamheed, said he did not think there would be any information to be hidden from the people due to the current dollar stagnation in the country.

The value of a dollar has risen to MVR 20 on the black market, and many are expressing concerns about the issue.
