Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC says police have fined 29 individuals for breaking the 7-hour curfew implemented in the greater Male’ area in the last 24 hours.

Addressing the Media, Epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal said that in the last 24 hours police had cautioned 66 individuals caught outside after 10 pm in the capital city.

He added that police had also fined 29 others for repeated offense of breaking the 10 pm to 5 am curfew.

Last Sunday, HEOC had banned vehicular activities from 8 pm to 5 am in the Greater Male’ Area. Dr. Afzal said since then 97 individuals have been cautioned for disobeying the ban while 52 others were fined for repeatedly disobeying the vehicular ban.

These restrictive measures were taken as the surge of new cases of COVID-19 continue to grow with 135 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. This has taken the total number of positive cases to 7047 with 2580 active cases and 173 hospitalized for further treatment.

The pandemic has killed 28 people in the Maldives including 22 locals and 6 foreigners.
