Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC says police have so far fined 1010 individuals for failing to wear facemasks in public since it was deemed mandatory in the Greater Male’ Area.
Speaking at the latest HEOC news briefing, epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afsal said that since wearing facemask was made mandatory a total of 2637 individuals have been cautioned and that 1010 individuals were fined for repeated offenses.
Police had said earlier that repeat offenders must pay a fine of MVR 1000 to the state.
Earlier this month, HEOC had made wearing masks mandatory when in public in the Greater Male’ Area and later on announced that it would extend the order to islands with active cases of COVID-19.
HPA had said that currently 32 resorts and 10 resorts are hosting active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
