A 79 year old elderly local citizen has passed away over complications rising after contracting Covid-19 disease.
Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) claims the elderly citizen, a local male, was admitted at the Emergency Room of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to provide critical care.
The time of death according to the hospital was at 02:58hrs of Monday early morning, while this latest case has surged the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 to 10 in August alone.
Meanwhile, Monday's death has spiked the total number of deaths related to Covid-19 in Maldives to 27.
Maldives is facing a second wave of spread with surging cases everyday while authorities report a total of 119 cases on Sunday. Out of the total 110 cases originated from Greater Male' Region while the remaining 9 were reported from across the country.
So far the total number of cases reported from the island nation have spiked to hit 6,779 inclusive of both active cases and recoveries while the total number of recoveries have reached 4,222.
Moreover, HPA notes a total of 24 islands outside of Greater Male' Region reported with active cases and remain under the authority's watch list for future developments.
