Chief Superintend of Police Abdullah Shareef says 2869 individuals from the ages of 18 to 40 were penalized for breaking the curfew imposed in the Greater Male’ Area between 4th to 23rd of this month alone.
Speaking to the press last night at the latest news briefing by the HEOC, he said between 4th to 23rd of this month, 86 individuals below the age of 18 were penalized for being outside during the 7-hour curfew.
He said 2869 individuals between the ages of 18 to 40 were penalized for breaking the curfew within the period of time.
He explained that 259 individuals between the ages of 41 to 65 were also penalized while 2 people above the age of 65 were also punished for breaking the curfew within that period.
Superintend Shareef said between that period 116 individuals below 18 were penalized for failing to wear facemasks in public while 1951 individuals between the ages of 18 to 40 were penalized for the offense during that time.
He added that between 4th to 23rd August, 353 individuals between the ages of 41 to 65 were punished for not wearing a mask in public while 8 individuals above the age of 65 were penalized for the offense during that time.
On Saturday the Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC banned vehicular movement from 8 pm to 5 am in the Greater Male’ Area while earlier it had imposed a 7-hour curfew in the area to restrict movement to better manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
