Maldives Criminal Court orders remand until trial end on Aiman Ahmed, 27, arrested with more than 1 kilogram of narcotic substances.

Aiman was arrested with a total of 1.16 kilograms of narcotic substances during a special operation carried out by the Drug Enforcement Department and Drug Intelligence Unit of Maldives Police Service.

He was sentenced with the remand after being summoned to Criminal Court, the court of first incidence, following his arrest on 20 August 2020 during the police crackdown.

During the massive scale operation police carried out after intelligence confirmed of illegal narcotics ring in Maldives, authorities had raided and inspected two residences - one from Hulhumale' and another from Male' City.

Following the raid police uncovered four, large rubber packets with substances strongly believed to be illicit substances from the Male' City residence.

The suspect in the case holds a previous criminal record as well, when he was arrested with 17 kilograms of illicit substances during a crackdown by Indian police in their native country.

Meanwhile, Drug Enforcement Department claims they were investigating the cases for further details.
