Maldives Police Service have arrested three individuals in possession of over 750 bottles of alcohol.
According to local sources, a special operation was carried out by the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) of Maldives Police Service as a crackdown on narcotic smuggling and trade.
The authority confirms their DED assisted by the officers of Maldives Police Service had made arrests of three individual who had a total of 756 bottles of alcohol in their possession.
Local law enforcement further claims the operation were carried on August 17, 18 and 20 based on reports received to the Police Intelligence department. Moreover, police confirms they had raided two residents from Male' City along with other venues with suspicious activities.
Moreover, Maldives Police searched residents which accommodated individuals with previous criminal records.
During the police crackdown authorities had confiscated several narcotic substances including alcoholic beverage bottles and other illicit narcotic substances.
Furthermore, local police confiscated a total of 256 bottles of alcoholic beverages during their operation on 17 August and arrested a 36 year old Bangladeshi expatriate.
Police crackdown on Tuesday, 18 August led to authorities apprehending two locals at a restaurant in Male' City - the individuals were aged 19 and 23, both locals. Authorities had confiscated rubber packets from the two locals that have been suspected of containing narcotic substances.
Additionally, police confirm confiscating 45 cellophane wrappings containing substances that have been suspected as narcotics from a residence in Galolhu district. Police had further discovered a bottle containing a liquid suspected as alcohol from the same residence.
Maldives Police Service have arrested two local men, aged 20 and 23, connecting them with the case.
Another incident involved a random checking from the outer-most road of Male' City, after an individual was observed with erratic behavior. Police discovered six cellophane wrappings and eight rubber packets from the individual's possession.
