Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed earlier today that another person had died of COVID-19 in the Maldives.

In a tweet, HPA said that on 21st August 2020 at 01:28 am, an 82-year-old Maldivian male admitted at HMF, has passed away.

He is the 8th person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives this month alone and the 25th person to die from the pandemic in the country since the illness reached its shores back in March.

Twenty locals and five foreigners have succumbed to the pandemic here in the Maldives.

Yesterday, HPA reported 145 new cases of COVID-19 with 142 reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 3 were confirmed from the islands.

HPA said the new cases include 123 Maldivians, 11 Bangladeshis, 3 Indians, 5 Sri Lankans, 1 Nepalese, 1 Japanese national, and a Jordanian.

The new cases have taken the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 6370.

HPA also said while 3915 individuals have now recovered from the illness 2431 still remained as active cases of COVID-19. It said that 1355 individuals have now been isolated at various facilities across the nation while 161 individuals have been hospitalized for further treatment.
