Strong tidal waves have crashed inland, flooding the roads near the Artificial Beach area in Male' City on Thursday.
The area is notable for such occurrences in the past as well, with every high tide season. The flood has stretched from King Salman mosque until all the way across the T-section joining Majeedhee Magu with Boduthakurufaanu Magu. Moreover, flood waters have traversed further inland through the main road of the Maldives capital.
The incident was reported around 16:15hrs of Thursday late afternoon.
Meanwhile the Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) claims the seas across the country will be generally calm, but advised over possible tidal wave crash due to high tides. The authority further claims the waves will stretch at a height between 1 foot to 3 feet.
Though MET Office notes of possible minor floods across shorelines, it reports the waves may not be strong enough to crash further inland. Furthermore the weather forecast authority confirms of generally clear weather across the country.
