Health Emergency Operations Center Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says the Health Protection Agency is committed to bringing the latest information and guidance to the public and has urged the country to heed the instructions of the Agency.

In a rare tweet, Dr. Nazla said many are sharing false information about the pandemic on their social media accounts and other platforms.

She said that the HPA is ever committed to bringing the most accurate information and guidelines to the public and called on the nation to listen to their advice most ardently.

In an earlier tweet, Dr. Nazla acknowledged the rise in COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks in the country and assured that the HEOC is working to enhance its capacity to fight the ever-growing pandemic in the Maldives.

This comes after the HPA confirmed 597 cases of COVID-19 in the country in the last five days with 143 new cases reported in the Maldives yesterday alone. A total of 5366 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country with 2884 now declared cured of the illness.

But 2461 remained as active cases of COVID-19 with 150 hospitalized for further treatment.

The global pandemic has claimed 21 lives in the Maldives including that of 16 locals and 5 foreigners.
