Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says police have fined a total of 475 people for failing to wear facemasks in the public.
Updating the local media on the latest development from the COVID-19 crisis here in the Maldives, Dr. Nazla said in the last 24 hours, police have fined 41 individuals and cautioned 94 individuals for disobeying the order to wear facemasks in the public in the Greater Male’ Area as well as in the islands with active cases of COVID-19.
Dr. Nazla said since the order was initially implemented, a total of 475 people have been fined for failing to wear masks in the public.
The government made wearing face masks in the public mandatory in the Greater Male’ Area at the National Taskforce Meeting on the 30th of July. Later on, the HEOC announced that wearing masks is now mandatory in islands with active cases of COVID-19.
Currently, 14 islands have reported active cases of COVID-19 along with 9 resorts.
